The City of Stonecrest, GA is seeking an experienced, energetic, and creative Economic Development Director to serve Dekalb County’s newest city in creating economic development opportunities. Strong candidates will have a portfolio of successful economic development initiatives, be entrepreneurial, tech-savvy, and creative in using strategies that promote the City’s assets while looking for ways to overcome challenges. The successful candidate will be a proactive partner with community stakeholders to develop innovative strategies that produce new opportunities and initiatives. A successful history of building bridges, seeking win-win solutions where divergent interests lie; and generating commitment and enthusiasm for the vision of building a vibrant city will be key credentials. The Economic Development Director must be able to convey a passionate understanding that safe and livable communities are an essential part of quality of life, a key ingredient for individual opportunity and economic development. The City’s economic development activities focus on building, enhancing, and sustaining a community that values and is investing in its human, physical, cultural, social, and financial capital to attract and support private investments, increase employment opportunities, and support existing as well as attract new high-quality retail, commercial, and industrial enterprises throughout the City. Reporting to the City Manager, the Economic Development Director oversees one staff member and a budget of $554,723. The Economic Development Director will serve as the City’s key expert for community growth and development, working closely with DeKalb County on City projects as well as being a City liaison with various authorities, Discover Dekalb, Stonecrest Film and Entertainment Commission, and the East Metro Community Improvement District. The Economic Development Director must demonstrate significant experience in an environment with similarly diverse functions, serving an urban environment. The candidate’s work history must include well-rounded experience with a minimum of six years of increasingly responsible experience in Economic Development including three years of administrative and supervisory responsibility and a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in business administration, urban planning, public administration, or related field. A master’s degree is preferred. The hiring range is $90,000 – $140,000. Compensation is negotiable based upon experience and qualifications.
